PiCofY Laser Pre-Care & Aftercare Instructions

Last updated September 14, 2026 · 6 min read

PiCofY uses advanced picosecond laser technology to target unwanted pigment and stimulate skin remodeling with precision. Following these simple instructions will help support your skin and optimize your results.

The guidance below covers both pigment and rejuvenation treatments and tattoo removal. Your provider will tell you which parts apply to your treatment plan.

1 to 2 Weeks Before Your Treatment

  • Avoid tanning beds and intentional sun exposure.
  • Do not arrive with a sunburn or recently tanned skin.
  • Use broad-spectrum SPF 30 to 50 daily.
  • Avoid aggressive exfoliation or irritating treatments on the treatment area.
  • Keep your skin well moisturized.
  • Please let us know about any medications, supplements, recent procedures, active skin conditions, or changes in your health before treatment.

For tattoo removal, please avoid applying self-tanner to the tattoo or surrounding skin before treatment. If possible, keep the tattoo protected from sun exposure between treatments. Tanned skin can increase the risk of unwanted pigment changes following laser treatment.

After Your PiCofY Treatment

It is normal for the treated area to look and feel different immediately after treatment.

  • Redness
  • Warmth
  • Mild swelling
  • Tenderness
  • Temporary darkening or lightening of pigment
  • Mild blistering or pinpoint bleeding with some tattoo-removal treatments
  • Crusting or peeling as the skin heals

Your response will depend on the area treated, treatment settings, and your individual skin response.

The First 24 to 48 Hours

  • Keep the treated area clean and protected.
  • Gently cleanse as directed, using CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser.
  • Apply the post-care product recommended by Therapeutic Elements, such as Eucerin or Alastin® Regenerating Skin Nectar.
  • Keep the area moisturized.

Tattoo Removal Healing

After a tattoo removal session you may notice the tattoo looks temporarily darker, becomes lighter over time, develops mild swelling, forms small blisters or crusting, or simply appears different as the skin heals. These changes can be part of the normal healing process.

  • Do not pop blisters or pick at scabs.
  • Cover the area with a clean, non-stick dressing if recommended by your provider.

Tattoo removal typically requires multiple treatments, with adequate healing time between sessions. The number of treatments varies based on tattoo color, depth, age, size, location, and individual response.

Skincare After Toning or Rejuvenation

If your PiCofY treatment is being performed for pigmentation, skin tone, texture, or rejuvenation, keep your skincare routine simple while your skin is recovering.

  • Gentle cleanser, such as CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
  • Gentle serum and moisturizer, such as Eucerin or Alastin® Regenerating Skin Nectar
  • Broad-spectrum SPF 30 to 50

Once your skin has completely recovered, your provider can guide you on when to resume active skincare products.

Sun Protection

Sun protection is one of the most important parts of your treatment plan. Use broad-spectrum SPF 30 to 50 daily and limit direct sun exposure to the treated area.

Sun exposure following laser treatment can increase the risk of unwanted pigmentation changes and may interfere with achieving your best result.

Between Treatments and Your Results

Your skin continues to respond after your treatment, so be patient with the process. For tattoo removal, pigment continues to be cleared by your body between treatments. For pigment and rejuvenation treatments, improvement may continue as the skin remodels.

Do not schedule additional treatments sooner than recommended by your provider. Your skin needs adequate time to heal between treatments, typically 6 to 8 weeks.

PiCofY is highly customizable and can be used to address unwanted pigment, tattoos, certain scars, and skin rejuvenation. Results develop gradually, and multiple treatments may be recommended depending on your goals. Every patient responds differently, and your treatment plan will be customized to your skin and desired outcome.
