Acne Scars: Microneedling vs. Solaria CO₂
Last updated November 2, 2026 · 4 min read
Acne may be behind you, but the marks it left can stay long after. If you have wondered whether anything can help, the honest answer is that treatment aims to soften the appearance of scars and improve texture. Complete removal is not a realistic expectation.
Dermapen4 microneedling and Solaria CO₂ are two options patients often compare. The right choice depends on the type and depth of your scarring, your skin tone, whether you have active acne, and how much recovery time you can accommodate.
It starts with what kind of scars you have
Acne scars are not all alike, and some scar types require other approaches. That is why an assessment comes before choosing either treatment.
If you are still getting breakouts, those may need to be managed first. Your provider will assess your skin before recommending scar treatment.
Dermapen4 microneedling: a shorter recovery
Dermapen4 microneedling may be considered for certain textural acne scars, particularly if you prefer a shorter recovery period.
A series of approximately 3–6 sessions may be recommended. Redness and sensitivity typically last a few days.
Solaria CO₂: more intensive resurfacing
Solaria CO₂ provides more intensive resurfacing and may be considered for selected patients with more pronounced texture concerns.
The trade-off is recovery. The number of sessions and recovery depend on treatment intensity. Initial healing can take approximately 1–2 weeks, and redness may last longer.
